Chairman

Dr Charles Moon

Charles Moon was born in Surrey but moved to Sussex where at the age of 9 became a chorister in Storrington and often sang solos. From time to time he sang in Chichester Cathedral and enjoyed choral music until he went to The Royal London Hospital to study medicine. During this time he became involved in the medical school reviews and charity shows at Christmas. He spent a summer working at the University Hospital in Helsinki, Finland.

Before coming to Cornwall in 1961 he worked at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and spent a short pleasant time as a GP in North Uist in the Outer Hebrides.

On arrival in Cornwall he became a GP at Pool and took over the role of Hon. Medical Officer to St Johns Ambulance and gave regular first aid lectures and examinations. He became the chairman of the local medical committee and local cancer research committee.

When BBC Radio Cornwall started Charles became their first radio doctor and had a weekly phone in programme which continued for 3 years.

After this his interest in Psychiatry and sleep patterns in particular led to a considerable amount of research in general practice. As a result of this he became a member of the European Sleep Research Society. He published several papers and presented them in the UK, Europe and Japan. Following on from this he formed his own Cornwall and Devon Clinical Research Group involving clinical trials in primary care.

He never lost his zest for rugby and became Hon. Medical Officer for the Cornwall Rugby Union and Redruth Rugby Club.

Over the past few years he has enjoyed singing in Balanced Harmony and the Rainbow Singers, all raising money for charity. He was a member of the Porthtowan Players and became a member of RAOST in 2002 and appeared in Thank You for the Music 1 & 2, The Sound of Music and Titanic at the Hall for Cornwall, the latter also being performed at the Minack Theatre. As a member of RAOST Singers he has enjoyed singing in several charity concerts.

Being Chairman of Camellia MC Productions he is determined to devote time and energy in an attempt to make Killiow 2008 a great success.
